 FEBRUARY 9, 2022 MIDWEEK 11
Simple Love Lessons From Local Couples
February is the month of celebrating love and gratitude, and with Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I asked some of Hawai‘i’s cupid-matched cou- ples, “What are you thankful for in your relationship?”
“Kurt and I have been to- gether for 25 years and mar- ried for 12. I’ m thankful for never giving up. Relation- ships require constant work and it’s vital to work together to keep it going. This is not only in marriage, but rela- tionships, friendships, family, colleagues, etc.”

“My husband, Curly, and I were together for a year and got married on Sept. 21, 1968. We were married for 53 years before he passed. We did ev- erything together and I am so thankful for him and all the things he did for me and our family. He loved our sons and grandchildren so much. I will never forget how loving and caring he was to me.”

“Kaleo and I have been together since 2015 and got married June 5, 2021. The thing I’m most grateful for is the fact that I get to know how it is to not only love someone fully and completely with no conditions, but to also be loved in that same way. The care that hehasformeislikehowapar-
ent cares for their children or we care for our parents. His love has taught me to love my- self, and that is something I’ve struggled with my entire life.”
