any former Ha- wai‘i residents relocate to the
Ninth Island for various rea- sons, including employment opportunities, more afford- able housing and family. For Paul Pu‘ukani Sebala, who grew up in Hālawa Housing in ‘Aiea, his reason was all of the above. Paul, his wife Laura and son Kamakana, left O‘ahu back in 2002, joining his sister and mother in Vegas, and were able to be closer to in-laws in Los Angeles.
Vegas 20 years ago was quite a different scene than it is today, particularly due to the current growing pop- ulation, construction and increased cost of living. Despite this change, Paul is glad that he made this big move years ago. Like many Hawai‘i transplants, Paul misses family and friends back in Hawai‘i, as well as the beautiful weather and beaches, but he enjoys all that the Ninth Island offers in terms of entertainment, sports, road trips, and all the family and friends who visit. And of course, there is the large, continuously growing population of former Ha- wai‘i residents.
“I see Las Vegas as an ex- tension of Hawai‘i, as it has also quickly become a melt- ing pot of ethnicities and cul- tures,” he says.
Pipeline 2 Paradise Radio was born on July 7, 2003, but creating a streaming radio station was not just a random idea for Paul, who previous- ly worked in terrestrial radio for 17 years, including as an on-air personality on week- ends on KCCN FM 100.
Pipeline 2 Paradise is available nationwide via pipeline2paradise.com or by downloading the free Live 365 or Tune In Radio apps. Follow Pipeline 2 Paradise for updates on the follow- ing social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram and Twitter (@hawaiianradio).
One thing that the Ninth Island was missing for Paul was the music of Hawai‘i on the radio, so he decided to create Pipeline 2 Paradise, Vegas’ 24-hour Hawaiian
“My greatest desire back then was to create a platform to continue to showcase the music of Hawai‘i, but on a worldwide stage,” he ex- plains. “I especially wanted to create a radio station for

music station, that has been bringing the sounds of the is- lands to Vegas for nearly two decades. Along with stream- ing traditional favorites and island classics,” as well as newer music, Paul also does a live broadcast (2-5 p.m. PST Monday-Friday) called the “Paradise Pā‘ina Show with Pu‘ukani.”
artists who weren’t getting airplay, whether they lived in Hawai‘i or beyond.”
Paul also partners with local businesses, most re- cently creating “Paradise Thursdays” at the Rockstar Bar on Las Vegas Boulevard, where patrons can enjoy is- land-style music.
“I’m hopeful and extreme- ly motivated to grow togeth- er with our clients, while at the same time provide a radio station that not only Hawaiians, but Islanders worldwide can count on to be a true voice and stage for the music and talents of our islands,” he adds.
As his now full-time ca- reer, Paul is looking forward to continuing his focus on the station.
