Simon Kinberg’s The 355 came out Jan. 7. and stars Jessica Chastain as CIA agent Mason “Mace” Brown. When a top-secret weapon falls into the wrong hands, Brown must join forces with a rival German agent, a cutting-edge computer specialist and a Colombian psychologist to embark on a mission to save
the world. Joining Chastain are Penélope Cruz, Fan Bingbing, Diane Kruger and Lupita Nyong’o, with support from this Winter Soldier.
Andrew Garfield has been the talk of the town lately, especially after snagging a Golden Globe on Jan. 9. The British actor gained a following in 2010 after his critically acclaimed performance in The Social Network. Since then, Garfield has starred in The Amazing Spider-Man, Hacksaw Ridge and, most recently, Netflix’s tick, tick...BOOM!, a film about the early career of this late playwright who created Rent, one of the longest-run- ning Broadway shows in history.
Justin Long and Augustus Prew have joined the cast of the Dear David film. The movie is based on the viral 2017 Twitter ghost story by former BuzzFeed employee Adam Ellis, who is haunted by a dead boy. The flflick has wrapped up production and is eyeing a fall 2022 release date. Also taking part in the fifilm is this actress who is known for her roles in Kim’s Convenience and A Million Little Things.
Before accepting her part in the action horror film From Dusk Till Dawn (released 26 years ago this week), Salma Hayek had to overcome her ophidiophobia, or the fear of snakes, by working with therapists. That proved critical because the role of the vampire queen called for the actress to dance with a python wrapped around her neck. What slithery, diabolical name did the movie’s screenplay writer, Quentin Tarantino, give to Hayek’s character? (Hint: She was named after a gory Mexican horror flick released in 1975.)
