HEMIC Foundation recently held its charity golf tournament, benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawai‘i. According to Tammy Teixeira, senior vice president of business and development and president of its subsidiaries, this year’s golf tournament is an example of HEMIC’s com- mitment to the community.

“At HEMIC, we have always believed that it is our kuleana to help our community in meaningful ways, especially families and children. We created the HEMIC Founda- tion as a nonprofit to formalize and deepen this commitment. Through the foundation, we have a unique ability to respond nimbly to community needs and be trusted partners with our nonprofit grantees,” she explains.
“This year’s tournament was our first to run under the banner of the HEMIC Founda- tion. We began with an ambitious fundraising goal and with the significant support of our sponsors, we were able to exceed it — raising over $45,000 for BBBS. This year’s tourna- ment was also our largest to date, bringing in over 160 golfers, more sponsors and more vendor tents than previous years.”
Brown adds that proceeds from the tour- nament helped BBBS expand its services to include supplying families in need with care packages, groceries, meals and even parent- ing classes.
