Maxine Burkett has been appointed to a senior position in the Biden administration, working as a senior adviser with the U.S. Office of the Special Presidential Envoy for Climate. In her new role, Burkett will be working with Secretary John Kerry on international climate change issues and negotiations. Burkett has taught at University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa William S. Richardson School of Law since 2009.
Darian Chun is director of site development with Castle & Cooke Hawai‘i. In his new position, Chun will manage the design, planning and construction of the site infrastructure of all Castle & Cooke projects, including Koa Ridge. Previously, he held roles at Maryl Group Inc., Gentry Homes and Kiewit. He received his bachelor’s degree in construction management from Colorado State University.
Maria Carvalho has been appointed an underwriting manager with Zephyr Insurance Co. Inc. In this new position, Carvalho will be responsible for the performance and development of the underwriting team, while conducting quality control and ensuring goals are met in a timely manner. Previously, she worked for Farmers Insurance Hawai‘i and AIG Hawai‘i.

Ben Kashiwabara is vice president and commercial real estate officer at First Hawaiian Bank. He is responsible for commercial real estate middle-market loan originations and will take on a leadership role with FHB’s first choice commercial real estate loan program. Kashiwabara brings 34 years of experience to the role in the origination of multifamily and commercial income property loans.
Stephanie Nadolny has been named CEO of REHAB Hospital of the Pacific. She will take the reins from Dr. Timothy Roe, who retires next month. Nadolny has more than 25 years of experience in the hospital management industry and has had operational responsibility for a 60-bed inpatient rehabilitation facility with five outpatient satellites and a physicians’ practice.
Ryan Kuniyuki is senior vice president and senior wholesale credit administrator in Bank of Hawai‘i’s wholesale credit department. He is responsible for working with the corporate banking team and several other credit team initiatives to help with process improvement, as well as provide responsive and collaborative credit management. He brings more than 17 years of experience to the role.
