Cyndee Uchima has been promoted to director of human resources at Kaiser Permanente Hawai‘i. In her new role, Uchima will serve as a strategic partner with executives and senior leaders, ensuring HR activities are aligned with the organization’s overall business strategy. She will also oversee labor relations and the implementation of organizational change efforts. Uchima started her career at Kaiser in 1990.
Anthony “AJ” Ayres is an associate in Carlsmith Ball LLP’s litigation and alternative dispute resolution practice group. He will cover the areas of business and corporate litigation, as well as land entitlements and dispute resolution. Ayres received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Most recently, he worked as an appellate litigation attorney for Bergmann & Moore in Maryland.
Deseree Tano has been named Head Start & Early Head Start ERSEA (eligibility, recruitment, selection, enrollment and attendance) manager with HCAP. In this position, she will be responsible for monitoring and the implementation of ERSEA regulations, as well as overseeing daily operations of Head Start & Early Head Start family advocates. She joined the nonprofit in 2018 and most recently served as an ERSEA specialist.

Jonathan Cho is medical director of University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center’s clinical trials office. He will be responsible for overseeing the clinical trials administered at the facility. Cho has been a faculty member at the center since 1991, and has served Hawai‘i residents as an oncologist for nearly three decades. He graduated from University of Hawai‘i John A. Burns School of Medicine.
Sati Benes Chock is curatorial project administrator and editor at Honolulu Museum of Art. In her new role, Chock will provide proactive, high-level and coordinated oversight of all curatorial and exhibition projects throughout the museum. She holds a bachelor’s degree in European history and a master’s in Japanese literature. Chock has been with HoMA for nearly 20 years.
Mark Yoda will soon be president and CEO of First Insurance Co. of Hawai‘i. He will follow in the footsteps of Jeff Shonka, who retires Aug. 31. Yoda currently serves as deputy CEO of Tokio Marine North America, FICOH’s parent company, and managing executive officer of Tokio Marine Holdings. He is a graduate of Hitotsubashi University of Tokyo and St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.
