By Christopher Yick, founder of Hawai‘i Chamber Music Festival
Hawai‘i Chamber Music Festival connects passionate students with world-class artists to cre- ate beautiful music. The organization serves local professionals and talented students in the islands, while positively impacting the community.
Music Week that featured international violinist Ryu Goto.
Hawai‘i, The Royal Hawaiian, The Kāhala Hotel & Resort and CK Violins as filming location sponsors. Due to the pandemic, HCMF wanted to use these recorded videos to allow these business- es to utilize promotional material to help recover from the financial impact. To top it off, HCMF teamed up with nonprofits Hawai‘i Children’s Cancer Foundation and Let Grace In to raise awareness and help replace their in-person fundraising events.
Hawai‘i is a hidden gem for talent, specifically young, aspiring artists. The greatest fulfillment as a rising musician is seeing how music can benefit a com- munity. HCMF will always dedicate its efforts to exposing local talent and showcasing world-class artists. In doing so, we hope to bring people together and work with others to shine the aloha spirit that is vibrant in our local culture and community.
In 2020, we were supposed to launch our Talent Development Program with ‘Iolani School and Masaki School of Mu- sic. However, it was canceled due to the pandemic. This year, HCMF concluded its first-ever Young Artist Program with international superstar violinist Stefan Jackiw as guest artist and instructor.
Since 2018, we’ve had more than 16 concerts, 40 artists perform and six mas- ter classes. In 2019, we were a partner with ANA Airlines for ANA Honolulu

Our greatest challenge is our presence since we are so new. We are always seek- ing generous contributions and future volunteers. Email chris@hawaiicmf. org or visit givebutter.com/hawaiicmf.
The program admissions were ex- tremely competitive because generous donors allowed 20 students to attend tuition-free. Students learned chamber music in a side-by-side format with local professional musicians. After only three rehearsals, these young artists teamed up with sponsor Treehouse Productions to engage in a professional recording ex- perience.
All in all, the Young Artist Program was a huge success that helped our stu- dents, community and local businesses. The best part? We were able to keep the music going even in times like this.
