Deb Lewis has been elected commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Hawai‘i. Lewis is a member of the first womens’ graduating class at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and the first woman to command two stateside engineer districts and a $2.1 billion combat construction project in central Iraq for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Scott Kuioka is senior vice president and COO of Island Insurance Co. Kuioka will continue to serve as chief investment officer and chief risk officer, and oversee the commercial lines, including the large accounts division, as well as the personal lines, reinsurance, marketing and facilities departments. He is a graduate of Northeastern University and University of San Francisco.
Hilda Heine has been elected to The East- West Center’s board of governors. She is the first woman president of the Marshall Islands, serving in 2016-2020. She was also the first from the Marshall Islands to earn a doctorate degree. Previously, Heine was the nation’s minister of education, and she is currently a senator representing Aur Atoll.

Toby Taniguchi has been appointed to Hawaiian Electric’s board of directors. He is the president and COO of KTA Super Stores. Taniguchi is also a director of Parker Ranch Inc. and Hawai‘i Employers Mutual Insurance Co., and sits on the board of governors for Hawai‘i Community Foundation. He is a graduate of University of Portland.
Lori Suan is the chief development officer of REHAB Hospital of the Pacific. In this role, Suan will foster a culture of philanthropy within the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific Foundation. Most recently, she served as the director of donor relations and development for Shriners Hospitals for Children – Honolulu. Suan is a graduate of University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
Ryan Field is executive vice president and executive director of vendor risk management in Bank of Hawai‘i’s enterprise vendor risk management and sourcing department. He will oversee administration and develop a strategy that ensures cost leverage, performance improvement, innovation, risk mitigation and escalation management.
