Secure Branch Visits From the Palm of Your Hand
by Craig Warren
Hawaii State FCU,Chief Operating Officer
At Hawaii State FCU, finding innovative ways to make your branch visits safe and more efficient is a priority. And one of the ways that we’ve been able
to incorporate technology to create a better experience is through our use of palm vein biometric authentication, which allows our members to scan their palm for quick, secure access to their accounts.
First in the State Technology
Hawaii State FCU is the first in the state and one of the first financial institutions in the nation to introduce this type of technology and integrate it with its core systems. By simply waving your palm over the scanner, the technology uses the unique vein patterns and blood flow in the hand to identify
a member, allowing access to accounts without having to pull out identification. It’s touchless, secure and more reliable than other biometric authentication methods such as iris scanning or fingerprint recognition.
A Safer Member Experience
Contrary to popular belief, palm vein authentication does not collect or retain
an actual image of your palm or finger
prints. Upon enrollment, a digital mapping
of your palm and blood flow is recorded,
and then translated into a mathematical representation and encrypted at the machine level. The digital mapping is used to match up with an individual’s profile when they use their palm to scan in, eliminating the use
of personal information such as a member number or social security number to search for a member.
Registering is Easy
Our palm vein biometric authentication scanners have been implemented at all of our Integrated Teller Machines (ITMs) and many of the teller windows at our branches. It’s easy for members to register for palm vein authentication – the process takes only a few minutes.
For more information or to register for palm vein authentication, please visit one of our branches and speak to a financial specialist today.
