NOVEMBER 16, 2022
Aloha surfers and beachgoers, November is in full swing with the biggest swells of the year coming as of this writing.
He can surf anything from maxing out at Pipeline to 12 footers at Sunset. If he plays his competitive prowess properly, he could make top five in 2023.

only. The fun was maximum, the rules minimum.
Meanwhile, The Sun- set Pro presented by HIC wrapped up on Nov. 4. Two super-talented surfers from Hawai‘i took home the wins — Gabriela Bryan and Bar- ron Mamiya.
“I’m super stoked to surf Sunset again in a contest and to get another win,” Mamiya says. “It’s been a super good event. The waves were small the first couple days, but the last day was super fun, so I’m stoked to get some good waves.”
I predict Bryan will take her ninth place 2022 WCT ranking and turn it into a top five like Mamiya in 2023.
Foam Wreckers was the brainchild of pro surfer and foam board fanatic Jamie O’Brien — aka JOB because he has the best job ever.
Mamiya is just 22 years old but won Sunset before. He was also a 2022 World Championship Tour stand- out, so he brought a lot of confidence to the contest.
Now, to a different kind of contest. The Red Bull Foam Wreckers presented by Catch Surf kicked off Nov. 5 at Sandy Beach with solid 4-foot grinders. The parking lot and beach were packed by 6:30 a.m. and the event was off the hook.
“It’s the most official, nonofficial surf contest in the world,” O’Brien says. “It’s all about having fun and enjoying yourself, win or lose.”
