Juniors Can Apply For 2023 Peace Scholarship
The Japan-America Soci- ety of Hawai‘i reinstated its Hiroshima Peace Scholar- ship for 2023, and Leeward O‘ahu high school juniors interested in fostering rela- tionships between Hiroshi- ma, Japan and Hawai‘i are encouraged to apply.

The recipients — two high school juniors, one attending a private school and one at- tending a public school — will participate in a series of monthly workshops that cover peace-related resourc- es to prepare them for an educational summer trip to Hiroshima, where they will learn the history and impact of World War II. Partici- pants will engage in events honoring the Aug. 6, 1945, bombing of Hiroshima, and
Scholars will be received by HPS’ newly founded sis- ter program, The Hawai‘i Heiwa Scholarship, which will sending high school scholars from Hiroshima to Hawai‘i in spring 2024.
Students must complete a written application to qualify and finalists will be required to attend an oral interview. Fluency in the Japanese lan- guage is not mandatory for this scholarship.
Applications may be sub- mitted online or by mail, and must be received by the JASH office by Jan. 6.
