When students in Pearl City and ‘Aiea returned to school earlier this month, they were greeted by clean, spiffy campuses conducive to learning.
“There truly is joy in ser- vice. A big mahalo to amaz- ing team leaders for their support in planning, getting resources and taking care of our volunteers,” Misalucha adds.
Volunteers participated in a district-wide initiative called Community Day in Our Schools — A Day of Service on July 31.
In total, 140 volunteers, from 10 organizations and seven schools put in a com- bined 560 hours.
It was a one-day event to beautify public school cam- puses, stretching across 4.9 miles from ‘Aiea to Pearl City. State Sen. Bennette Misalucha (District 16) an- nounced the creation of the effort.
Team leaders included Chris Kinimaka for ‘Aiea Elementary, Brent Toyama and Wayne Suzuki for ‘Aiea High, Ryden Iwamoto for Highlands Intermediate, Camille Omo for Lehua El- ementary, Nancy Hsu for Pearlridge Elementary, state Sen. Bennette Misalucha and Maureen Swanson for Pearl City High, and Kelly McDonald for Waiau Ele- mentary.
“We all witnessed the gen- erosity of spirit displayed by our volunteers as they gave their time, effort and energy toward this project,” states Misalucha.
