Huaka‘i is the Hawai- ian word for “voyage” and she hopes the ideas and connections forged at the symposium generate even more partnerships between JABSOM and the wider community with the goal of encouraging future gener- ations to embark on a voy- age into the medical field in Hawai‘i.
Dr. Jerris Hedges, former dean of University of Hawai‘i’s John A. Burns School of Medicine, speaks at his retirement ceremony earlier this month. Hedges led the medical school for the past 15 years, ensuring it received its Liaison Committee on Medical Education accreditation and helping build stronger community bonds to address the statewide physician shortage.
