Honolulu Pulls Out All The Stops To Celebrate LLWS Champs
From parades to proclamations, Honolulu went all out to recognize its namesake Little League team, which brought home the 2022 world championship on
Aug. 28, with a 13-3 mercy rule win over Pabao Little League in Pennsylvania. (Top right) The team waves to onlookers during a Sept. 8 Honolulu “Parade of Champions,” which wound its way from A‘ala Park through downtown and Chinatown, past the Civic Center and wrapped up at City Hall. After the parade, Mayor Rick Blangiardi read a proclamation and presented team manager Gerald Oda with a key to the city. (Bottom right) Central Pacific Bank welcomed the team to its main branch in downtown Honolulu on Sept. 2 and presented members with a $10,000 check from the CPB Foundation. The money helped cover the team’s travel expenses and will pay for a new pitching machine and other equipment. (Below) Gov. David Ige and first lady Dawn Amano Ige posed with
the team and its coaches. Gov. Ige proclaimed Sept. 8 to be “Honolulu Little League Day” in Hawai‘i and praised the players not just for winning but for also showing good sportsmanship and exemplifying the aloha spirit throughout the tournament.
