Assets School’s second team MEAF (Metal Engi- neering Assets Flamingos) also ended the season in the semi-finals and finished the season ranked fourth. Team MEAF includes junior and captain Aren Karr, along with sophomore Kaheala- ni Gleason, who are both from East O‘ahu. Karr was named a Dean’s List Award finalist for his contributions to the team and for his out- reach efforts. He will be one of 209 Dean’s List Award finalists who will attend the 2023 FIRST Championship in Houston. Han shares that he began the FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Program at As- sets School in 2018 as an extracurricular after-school team in hopes of expanding STEM interest for the stu- dent population. At the time, there were only 10 students enrolled. The program has since grown to include near- ly 40 students in the program with three coaches and men- tors: Han, Miles Yamamoto and Emi Hagiwara.

Assets School is also having a virtual auction for general tuition assistance that is open to the public. It goes live at 6 p.m. April 6 to 8:30 p.m. April 15. All money raised in the auc- tion goes to tuition assis- tance for families in need of financial aid. The online auction coincides with the school’s Illumination Gala from 5 to 9 p.m. April 15 at The Pacific Club.
