To add to the confusion, the parent-teacher association for the Kaimukī school called itself the Liholiho Parent Teachers Association of Cum- mins School. Finally, in 1935, the Kaimukī school became known as Liholiho Elementa- ry School.
School principal Frank Fernandes is the lon- gest-serving Hawai‘i school principal at a single school with more than 36 years of service at Kaimukī Middle.
Today, the former school is used as office space by the state.

  Kaimukī was the larg- est residential sub- division in Hawai‘i more than 100 years ago. As such, it has schools with fas- cinating histories, some of which are outlined below.

Back then, the Territorial gov- ernment had a difference of opinion about the name for Washington Intermediate School. The Territorial gov- ernment called it Washing- ton Intermediate, while the board of supervisors called the school Cummins Inter- mediate.
