hen it comes to finding sustained success as a teacher, Zachary Morita encourages his peers and
those looking to enter the education field to “find your ‘marigolds,’ the people who will cheer you on, support you and give you life in a profession that can sometimes be very lonely. It’s important to find those people who are passionate and dedicated to lean on during those tough days and celebrate with during great times.”
Hawai‘i State Teachers Association se- lected Morita, a music teacher at Niu Valley Middle School, as its 2022 S.T.A.C.Y. Award for Teaching Excellence recipient.
The honor celebrates the work of the late Stacy Nishina, a heralded public school teacher, longtime staff member of HSTA and supporter of the union’s state candidates for the National Education Association Founda- tion Awards for Teaching Excellence.
Morita was honored in April during HS- TA’s 49th Annual State Convention.
