  Aloha surfers and beachgoers,
The forecast looks to have over half a dozen south swells and the north- west shores — though quiet- ing down — were hoping for a rare out-of-season winter cali- ber episode later in the week of April 18. Of course, our trusted trade swells have not been disappointing either. It’s been pretty much none stop with 3-foot and even 4-foot runs for days. The word that pops into my head is paradise.

Another event coming up is the 24th annual T&C Surf Grom Contest presented by Duke’s Waikīkī. Hold the dates and pray for surf — June 4-5 at Baby Queen’s surf break at Kūhiō Beach.

For those who may not know, the trophy actually has a bell on it. The winners get to ring the bell at the awards cer- emony, which is no easy task as it’s a heavy trophy.

Surf Tour Really Rings A ‘Bell’ With Coveted Trophy
This is the longest-running surfing event in the world, dating back to the Bells Beach Easter Classic in 1973 — yes, next year will be 50. The water temperature is a chilly 65-ish and the line up is big and broad like Sunset Beach — complicated by tides and winds.
Many pro surfers feel that this Bells trophy is the most coveted. It’s got the iconic list of all the illustrious winners for nearly half a century, plus all the surf stories and culture to go along.
This is another event that had to take the COVID break for two years but now the kei- ki are ready to crank. Indeed, our youth are frothing to show and tell — as we all cele- brate our blessings of family, friends and surfing.
This event is just for fun, fellowship and learning. There’s going to be about 350 kids ages 3-12 years young joining in the action.
Hurry and register as it fills up fast. Drop in online at events.tcsurf.com. A portion of this year’s proceeds will be donated to T&C Surf’s non- profit partner, Boys & Girls Club of Hawai‘i. Thank You, T&C and to all our wonderful supporters. And thank you for being here to share it in Mid- Week’s East O‘ahu Voice.
