organization Soroptimist In- ternational, which was estab- lished in 1921, has a network of 72,000 members globally in about 120 countries and territories. She also shares there are now four Soropti- mist clubs on O‘ahu with a total of 220 members.
The club has quite a lot to do, and it currently only has 14 official members.
With such an admirable undertaking ahead, the club is still testing out the waters by meeting with area resi- dents and organizations to gain a better understanding of the community’s needs.
Soroptimist Internation- al of North O‘ahu will fully set sail next year, as the club decided to start deploying its events, projects and pro- grams in 2023.
As Soroptimist Inter- national of North O‘ahu’s reach expands, its crew count will need to do so, too. Lurbe notes anyone who be- lieves in the organization’s mission, which is to pro- vide “women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment,” and is 19 years old or older can join the cause.
“Open your heart and mind to inspire hope in the lives and dreams of the women and girls facing challenges,” encourages Lurbe.
