PACK’s Fall Musical Features Catchy Numbers, Life Lessons
Families are invited to the Performing Arts Center of Kapolei’s (PACK) latest production, Pinkalicious The Musical, which kicks off Sept. 13 and runs through Sept. 21.
“This really is a story for the entire family,” said parent volunteer Kari Nettel.
Directed by Meagan Olson, with choreography by Tonesha Holland and musical direction by Kimberly Francis, the play makes its Hawaii debut featuring a cast of local intermediate and high school students.

The story is based on the children’s book Pinkalicious by Elizabeth and Victoria Kann and follows Pinkalicious, a young girl who loves the color pink. With a penchant for pink cupcakes, after eating too many despite warnings from her parents, she turns entirely pink. Though initially excited at her predicament, she soon has to solve her pink-hued condition.
“(It is) a family-friendly show with catchy musical numbers and a few important lessons,” said Nettel.
“Pinkalicious is not just for girls either,” she added. The character’s brother, Peter, also plays an important role in the story.
Playing the title role of Pinkalicous is Sacred Hearts Academy student Marlo Nettel, 14. The cast also has Rache Sapla, also a Sacred Hearts student, Austen Amparo and Thomas Olson from Kapolei High, Megan Boggs from Ilima Intermediate and Juliet Moody, a homeschool student.
According to the organization, it is a nonprofit theater program open to students of all ages.
“PACK’s goal is to bring quality performances at an affordable price to our community,” shared Nettel.
More than 75 students currently are active in the group.
Up next for the students is an October production of School House Rock Jr. and Thoroughly Modern Millie The Musical for spring 2014.
The organization also offers dance and other performance training courses throughout the year.
Pinkalicious The Musical runs through Sept. 21 with showtimes at 6 p.m. Thursdays and 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets cost $5-$6, and all performances are presented in the Kapolei High School cafeteria.
