WCC Students To Showcase Lessons In Music, Dance, Vocals

Save the dates: Song, dance, slack key and piano – all played by students on three free concert nights for the public – are scheduled this week at Paliku Theatre and other local venues.

Windward Community College students taking music classes will present their Spring Music Showcase May 6, 9 and 12 to celebrate the end of the semester. The schedule is below. For more information, call Bonnie Beatson at 235-7374 or email Ka’ala Carmack at kaalac@hawaii.edu.

* Piano Program – 7 p.m. May 6 in Ron Bright Theatre at Castle High School. Directed by So Jin Kimura, her piano students perform solo pieces ranging from the score in Disney’s movie Up to Mozart’s Piano Sonata in C Major, first movement.

* Vocal Program – 7 p.m. May 9 in WCC’s Hale Akoakoa, which includes intermission and refreshments. Carmack directs the WCC Choir and students from Voice 1 and 2 classes in a eclectic vocal mix of Elizabethan songs, Mozart, sea chanty, folk, popular and Hawaiian selections. Also performing are professor Ron Loo’s slack key guitar students and Sky Gora’s Hula ‘Olapa students.

* Hanauna Mele concert – 6:30 p.m. May 12 at Paliku Theatre, featuring slack key students from WCC and UH West Oahu, with special guests Aaron Mahi, Martin Pahinui and George Kuo.
