Waimanalo Rodeo This Week

Hold on to your cowboy hats: The popular Waimanalo rodeo is back after a decade, thanks to local country music singer and radio personality Dita Holifield.

The inaugural Dita Holifield JN Chevrolet All-American Rodeo breaks out of the stalls this Friday and Saturday at New Town and Country Stables. Three shows are scheduled: 7 p.m. Friday, and 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday.

Each show will have nine competitive events such as bull riding, bareback bronc riding, team double mugging, barrel racing, team roping, keiki barrel racing, wahine steer undressing, cowboy poker and more.

In addition to the rodeo action, there will be plenty of fun for families, including a petting zoo and pony rides, as well as a dunk tank, climbing wall, mechanical bull riding, live country music and more. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Discount presale tickets cost $20 for adults, $10 for ages 13-18 and $5 for age 12 and under. Advanced purchases are encouraged at Dixie Grill in Aiea, Whiskey Dix Saloon in Aiea, Nashville Waikiki, and online at hawaiisalem.com or rodeo.kamaaina-kids.com.

Presented by Veterans United Home Loans of Hawaii and sponsored by Country 97.5, Hawaii Gas Co. and Kickin Country Entertainment, some proceeds will go to Kama’aina Kids, Boys & Girls Clubs of Hawaii, Bikers Against Child Abuse and Make-A-Wish Foundation.

For more information about the rodeo, call New Town and Country Stables at 259-9941, or visit 975CountryKHCM.com. Some tickets may be available at the gate.
