Waikele Author At ‘Pink’ Party

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so supporters can devote some time this week to celebrating the Power of Pink – a FUNdraiser, which features a book signing by breast cancer survivor and Waikele resident Karen M. Garcia.

The first-time author of If I Fall Apart will be at A Little Bit of Everything from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday in Imperial Plaza, 725 Kapiolani Blvd.

Garcia will autograph copies of her book, which tells the story of her diagnosis, treatment and recovery. It’s “about giving hope and inspiration to others battling cancer,” explained her husband Nestor.

Genal Perrin of Papa-razzi Accessories will have $5 pink jewelry and accessories, and Valerie C. Kubota, owner of A Little Bit of Everything (the event’s sponsor) will give a 25-percent discount on all pink items purchased at her shop during the benefit. (A Little Bit of Everything stocks local greeting cards, mementos, inspirational gifts, T-shirts and more.)

Also at the event will be Kevin Nishimura of Mensore Therapy, who will give 10-minute chair massages for a $15 donation.

Last year, the shop held a similar event that raised more than $700 for the fight against breast cancer.

Free parking is available, and there will be pink drinks and refreshments, as well as a lucky drawing and door prizes, which include a “Curl Up with a Good Book” gift basket featuring Garcia’s book.

A portion of all proceeds will benefit breast cancer awareness organizations and programs.
