Congratulations to Wahiawa Middle seventh-grader Sadie Perez, who won the 2013 James Kuroda Scholarship (for an outstanding student artist) at the Hawaii Regional Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition. More than 1,400 entries were showcased at the February event at Hawaii State Art Museum … Former Leilehua High English teacher and Mililani High graduate Tyler Miranda is in town to promote his first novel, ‘Ewa Which Way, published by Bamboo Ridge Press. Mililani High senior Colby Benson and friend Haley Michelle Kagimoto co-wrote Change Who We’ll Become (with her dad on drums), and it took second place in a national “MusicCares Teens! Make Music” contest sponsored by the Grammy Foundation. The girls earned a trip to Los Angeles and a backstage tour of the Grammy Awards show for their entry, which gives hope to families struggling with drug addiction.
