This week in 1970: Santana performs a two-night sold-out engagement at HIC Arena. During their exciting two-hour show, they play favorites like Jingo, Soul Sacrifice, Oye Como Va, Black Magic Woman and Evil Ways. The newest member of the band is 16-year-old guitarist Neal Schon. On the second night, Jose Feliciano, who’d just completed his run at the Polynesian Palace in Cinerama Reef Hotel, stops by to jam, to the delight of the crowd. The opening act on both nights is Country Joe MacDonald. Ticket prices are $6, $5, $4 and $3. Fun fact: Earlier in the year I brought Santana for its first Hawaii concerts May 22 and 23 at Waikiki Shell. They created such excitement that I had to bring ‘em back … and the excitement continued! … And the No. 1 record in Hawaii is My Sweet Lord by George Harrison
