Students’ Drawings Provide Tips For A Healthy Lifestyle
West Oahu student artists have earned recognition for their work in AlohaCare’s annual statewide art contest.
The contest took place last school year, and winners were announced in June.
Kanoelani Elementary School’s Noah Takayama and Aidyn Huh of Kapolei Middle School each took first place in their grade levels (grades K-1 and 5-6, respectively).
AlohaCare is a nonprofit health plan founded by state community health centers as a way to provide affordable, quality care to more residents.
For this year’s contest, children had to illustrate how they keep healthy.
Takayama’s piece displays the importance of exercise, while Huh reminds viewers to get an adequate amount of sleep.
The contest was open to students throughout the state in kindergarten through grade 6, in both public and private schools. Each year, AlohaCare receives a few thousand entries.
This year’s other winners were Haeli Baldwin of Hilo Union School in the grades 1 and 2 category, and Yura Yasuno of Ala Wai Elementary in the grades 3 and 4 category.
Takayama and Huh, along with the other first-place winners, each won $100 for their efforts.
