Schools Marking 50, 60 Years

The Windward side is showing its age as schools, libraries and churches all celebrate landmark anniversaries this year.

Coming up in the next few weeks are at least three special parties marking campus history.

* Kapunahala Elementary School is 50 years old in March, and the celebration will run from 5:30 to 8 p.m. March 15 on the school field with a time capsule ceremony, T-shirts, Hawaiian plate dinners (pre-ordered), music, entertainment and performances by the current students. Call 233-5650.

* Enchanted Lake Elementary School marks its 50th year with a luau, program and entertainment from 4 to 7 p.m. March 16 in the courtyard and cafeteria. Plans call for an alumni business card directory, T-shirts, a commemorative cookbook ($10 pre-ordered) and more. Luau tickets are limited and cost $12 through March 1, $15 afterward. Souvenirs and memorabilia are welcome; Barbara Huonker, 263-1411, ext. 236.

* St. Anthony School, which opened in 1952, has educated more than 13,000 children in pre-school through grade 8, making it “the oldest private school in Kailua.” It will host a 60th Anniversary Gala and Silent Auction, “Evening on the Bay,” April 13 at the Kaneohe Marine base Officers Club. Tickets cost $60 now or $70 at the door, and sponsorships as well as silent auction items are welcome. Call co-chairs Donna Otto, 630-1690, or Stephanie Caires, 381-6283, or email ptsg@saskailua.org.
