Rechristening The Uss Bowfin

Military and government officials, business leaders and supporters gathered Dec. 7 for a celebra-tory dinner and rechristening of the USS Bowfin on its 70th anniversary. The USS Bowfin was launched into World War II one year after the attack on Pearl Harbor (Dec. 7, 1942), sinking 44 enemy vessels and earning the nickname “Pearl Harbor Avenger.” Today, the National Historic Landmark is considered to be the best-preserved and most-visited submarine that served in WWII. Each year, the USS Bowfin Submarine Park and Museum attracts more than 700,000 visitors from around the world.
