Race A Honu, Raise $ For Boys And Girls

Purchase a rubber honu to race against hundreds of others, and you will be helping to raise funds for The Boys and Girls Club of Hawaii Leeward Clubhouses during the annual Honu Race from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 10 at the Salvation Army Kroc Center.

The clubhouses include Hale Pono Ewa Beach, NFL YET Hawaii Nanakuli and Waianae.

Attendees can ‘adopt’ a turtle to race for prizes that include a Chevron gift card, a McDonald’s gift card and more.

“The Honu Race is our spin on the ‘Rubber Ducky Race,’ stated Lori Respicio, program director of the Hale Pono Clubhouse. “The event is an opportunity for all kids, including non-members, and their families, to be together and enjoy the day. We’ve got a honu coloring contest, prize giveaways, special goodies and even a character race – what better way to spend a Saturday?”

The event also will include a number of other family friendly activities.

Participants can purchase a Kroc Center day pass and one honu for $20 at any of the Leeward Clubhouses prior to the event (the price jumps up $3 on May 10).
