Kalani’s game against Roosevelt is another big challenge in its quest to reach the D-II playoffs this season. The Falcons missed the playoffs by just one game in 2013, and this could be the year they break through. Their defense started off on a strong note, holding Waialua and Kalaheo to a combined six points. That made head coach Greg Taguchi happy. But against Roosevelt, Kalani will have to improve offensively. Quarterback Tyler Ching averaged 185 yards passing in his first two games this year, and has only one interception. Wide receiver Blaise Manabe is averaging 30 yards a reception and has three touchdowns. The defense has been solid, and if its offense continues to improve, I see Kalani picking up another W.

This will definitely be an uphill battle for Roosevelt, but I smell an upset! The Rough Riders have struggled offensively so far in this young season, but this is where the receiving corps and quarterback Keanu Furtado can put it together. Furtado’s numbers through the first two games haven’t been bad at all, especially if you take away one glaring stat: touchdown-to-interception ratio. I expect he’ll settle down a bit and be more comfortable in the offense. The defense, meanwhile, has been on the field a lot this season, so looking at their stats is unfair. If the boys in yellow and red can keep the ball on a few more sustained drives, the defense will be more rested. I like the Rough Riders at home in an upset! You read it here first!
