Don’t Rain On The Ho, Ho, Ho Parade

Bright lights are up, people are going to parties, and happy music is in the air.

That’s not all. It also seems like the time for criminals to show their expertise. It could be my imagination, but it seems like our law enforcement community has its hands full handling domestic quarrels, assault and attacks on financial institutions. With so much good cheer going on, the daily news reports contradict that it is the holiday season.

Is something going on that we don’t know anything about?

I’m beginning to believe that there are people out there who are unhappy simply because everyone else is seeming to be happy, showered with presents and good cheer. This group may want to join the fun and resent any group of people who truly enjoy the holidays and the spirit that goes with it, and do mean things.

For that reason, being safe has to be one of the top priorities during the holiday season. If people are unhappy, it’s their right to be in a “Bah, Humbug” mode. It’s a free country. But don’t punish the people who are in a “Ho, ho, ho!” mood. After all, it only comes but once a year. How much damage can a person do by being in a “Ho, ho, ho!” spirit once a year?

Personally, I find it uplifting to see all the generosity flowing during the holiday season. People who don’t really have that much to share manage to donate to so many charity events during the holiday season.

Lots of the generosity is directed to people they don’t know or will never meet. Still, they dig down deep into their pockets to try to make someone’s holiday season a little happier. These people should have received a little more gratitude than they do, even though they don’t give expecting to received anything in return.

I think that if these “Bah, Humbug” types just relax and enjoy the spirit of the holidays, they will realize it feels good to give rather than receive.

So if you know someone who is embarked on a “Bah, Humbug” holiday season, don’t try to change their attitude, but feel sorry for them for missing out on a great opportunity: feeling good for no particular reason.

Happy Holidays!
