Adult Literacy Tutor Training

Enchanted Lake Elementary School, check-in 8:30 a.m., 9 a.m.-noon, free. Windward School for Adults invites volunteers to attend its training seminar on hleping other adults to improve their reading skills. The workshop is held on Wednesdays until Dec. 14. Pre-registration required. (259-0477)


Build Your Dream Home

Soccer Camp

Mililani District Park, ages seven to10 4-6 p.m., ages 11-14 6:30-8:30 p.m., $95 Hawaii Rush members before Dec. 1, $125 general before Dec. 1/after Dec. 1 $155, $90 each additional sibling. Coerver Soccer Skills teaching program conducts a five day soccer camp from Dec. 26-30, hosted by the Hawaii Rush Soccer Club. Happy Birthday King Kalakaua

Calling All African American Male Actors

The Yellow Brick Studio, 625 Keawe St. The Actors Group seeks one African American male to play a significant role in the upcoming production of August Wilson’s play, “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone.” The play takes place in 1911 in a boarding house in Pittsburgh, Penn. during the Great Migration of former slaves to the north. The role needed is Bynum Walker, a root worker, sage and conjure man. (722-6941 or 258-3866)

Flaming Idiots

Manoa Valley Theatre, Wednesday and Thursday 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday 8 p.m. and Sunday 4 p.m., $25 general, $20 seniors and military, patrons 25-years-old and under are $15. Opening today, the theatre presents performances of Tom Roney’s comedy, “Flaming Idiots.” Laugh at loud at this story of two postal workers who open a health food restaurant to make more money and hatch a crazy scheme to make it successful. Miniature Fine Art
