AARP-Tax-Aide Volunteers

Do you like numbers? AARP-Tax-Aide is seeking this special breed of volunteers to provide free tax preparation service for middle and low-income taxpayers with special attention to senior citizens. Receive free training on the latest tax laws, in cooperation with the IRS. (836-3439)

Botanical Gardens

Honolulu Botanical Gardens invites you to enjoy Hawaii’s most beautiful setting for volunteers. No previous garden experience required and positions available in a variety of settings. (522-7060)

Docents

The Friends of Waipahu Cultural Garden Park welcomes volunteers who can train as docents for daily tours of Hawaii’s Plantation Village in Waipahu. Docents will retell the plantation story through special guided tours and educational programs for youth. (677-0110)

Friendly Hospital Visitors

The Hawaii Department of Health Development Disabilities Division needs volunteers to provide friendly visiting, companionship, friendship, socialization and recreational activities for adult residents with developmental disabilities/mental retardation in health care facilities. Commitment is for six months. (733-9191)

Habitat For Humanity

Honolulu Habitat for Humanity is looking for volunteers to help with all facets of constructing homes for low-income families and to serve on its Family Selection, Building and Fundraising committees. (485-2355 or www.honoluluhabitat.org)

Human Services

The Institute for Human Services, Oahu’s emergency homeless shelter, needs volunteers for various positions. IHS requests a minimum of two to four hours a week for at least four months. (845-7150 ext. 209)

IRS Volunteers

The IRS and AARP Tax-Aide are seeking volunteers to provide free tax assistance. Volunteers will prepare federal and state returns for those who need help, with special emphasis on help for seniors. Free training is provided. (539-1503)

Lyon Arboretum Seeks Volunteers

Harold L. Lyon Arboretum, 3860 Manoa Road, Honolulu, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday, free. The arboretum seeks volunteers to help with historic collections, cultivation and care of rare and endangered plants, removal of invasive species and several key program areas. Volunteer opportunities are available to suit every different areas of interest and expertise. (988-0461)

Plantation Volunteers

Hawaii Plantation Village seeks volunteers of all ages to act as guides and greeters, as well as work on clerical, computer, retail, landscaping and other tasks, either weekly or for special events. Bilingual help is also needed. Training provided. (677-0110)

Provide Free Tax Help

The IRS and AARP Tax-Aide are seeking volunteers to provide free tax assistance in Hawaii next tax filing season. Volunteers will prepare federal and state returns in their communities for those who need help most, like the elderly, disabled and those with limited incomes. Training starts soon! Skate Patrol

The Honolulu Chapter of the National Skate Patrol is certified by the HPD Community Policing Unit to patrol Ala Moana Beach Park. Skate Patrol serves as the eyes and ears of the police and offers free safe-skating lessons to beginner skaters. Wahine Divers Wanted

Wahine Divers Hawaii, call for time and exact day. Wahine Divers seeks women of all ages and abilities to participate in its September Spearfishing Tournament.
