Niu Valley Canal Needs Help

The Niu Valley Canal Pulama Wai cleanup project gets under way again Oct. 19, when volunteers are invited to help remove debris from 9 to 11 a.m. Check-in is at 8 on the mauka side of Niu Valley Shopping Center by Halemaumau Street.

The event is a partnership of Malama Maunalua Bay, Graham Builders, RevoluSun and CrossFit East Oahu, along with the neighborhood hui. Last year’s effort took nearly 70 large trash bags of rubbish out of the canal with 100 helping hands.

Bring a hat, sunscreen, covered shoes and drinking water, and wear clothes that like dirt.

Malama Maunalua Bay’s Pulama Wai (“cherished waters”) initiative is built on some 20 volunteer leaders heading up two dozen land-based clean-up projects each year, all to help preserve Maunalua Bay. To join the fun, email rae@malamamaunalua.org or call 395-5050.
