N.Y.-trained Chef Cooks At LCC

The flavors of Vietnam and the Pacific come to Leeward Community College at 6 p.m. Friday.

The Pig and The Lady’s Andrew Le is featured chef at the school’s spring Chef Showcase Dinner and pulls his inspiration from home-cooked meals he enjoyed as a child.

According to Leeward CC, Le is well known for “serving up food on a whim” and has worked to help promote the local food movement here in Hawaii.

Every semester, Leeward CC’s culinary students get a chance to work and learn from top chefs at a special dinner.

Le, a Saint Louis High graduate who underwent culinary training in New York, is former sous chef at Chef Mavro and current head chef at The Pig and The Lady in Chinatown.

The five-course menu features Salad of Sprouting Seeds, Sashimi, Gnocchi, Shinsato Farm Pork and Caramelized Avocado Cake.

Tickets cost $70, or $85 with wine pairings from master sommelier Chuck Furuya.

Seating starts at 6 p.m., with last seating at 7:30.
