Microchip Discount Now For Pet Owners

It’s Microchip Madness Month, and area residents can have their pets micro-chipped for only $10 at a dozen veterinary clinics, including six in East Oahu.

The annual partnership between Hawaiian Humane Society (HHS) and the clinics aims to reduce the number of lost pets. Last year about 3,500 dogs and cats had microchip IDs inserted through the program. The tiny chip, the size of a rice grain, is injected under the skin between the animal’s shoulder blades, providing a individual code that can be read with a scanner.

HHS provides the micro-chips, and the clinics waive the cost of a doctor’s visit.

Pet owners can make an appointment at the clinics below, visit hawaiianhumane.org or call 946-2187:

Surf Paws in Hawaii Kai Towne Center, 395-3647; Aina Haina Pet Hospital on Waialae, 732-9111; Animal Clinic of Honolulu on Koko Head Avenue, 734-0255; Hawaii Kai Veterinary Clinic in Koko Marina Center, 395-2302; The Cat Clinic on Kapahulu Avenue, 732-8884; and The Pet Doctor near Kahala Mall, 733-8828.
