Makahiki Returns To Waimea

Waimea Valley celebrates the makahiki season with its annual festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 1 in the Upper Meadow, where entertainment, traditional culture and plenty of good Hawaiian food are planned for the public.

A yearly time of peace, thanksgiving and rejuve-nation of human and natural resources in the Hawaiian calendar, the makahiki will offer arts and crafts, plants, artisans, cultural practitioners, hula and makahiki games, which are open to everyone. The entertainment lineup includes Makua Coco Leong and her advanced ukulele class, which is an after-school program for Sunset Beach Elementary students.

Dancing on stage will be Ka Pa Nani O Likinoe, Na Makahonuakalpiliwale, Kanani Oliveira’s Wahiawa Hula Studio II, Halau Hula Makana A Ke Aloha, Na Lei Nani ‘O Waialua and Halau O Keaunui.
