Dear Editor,

Great garage sale help

Thank you so much for your continued support of Community Helping Schools, and mahalo for putting our July 27 Kailua garage sale in the community events column.

CHS made more than $4,000 at our garage sale. We would like to thank all the community members who supported the CHS Garage Sale with donations or purchases. With the proceeds of this sale we have been able to purchase new school supplies at bargain prices while they are on sale to fulfill the wish lists of many teachers.

Community support DOES make a difference! Mahalo and aloha,

Healthy run for club

Dear Editor,

The second annual Ko’olaupoko Hawaiian Civic Club Fun Run/Walk Aug. 17 was again a tremendous success, thanks to its founder, Kona Pelekai, and a staff of volunteers.

The 4-mile run through Kaneohe town was created and sponsored by the civic club and Pili Ohana to promote healthy habits among the Native Hawaiian community.

Ninety-eight participants of all ages strutted their stuff, wearing smiles and regal red and yellow. Some ran while others walked to complete the 4-mile course.

All enjoyed a fabulous healthy lunch and wonderful prizes at the finish line. Everyone went home with a sense of inspiration, new friendships, amazing prizes and most of all, HEALTHY HEARTS!!

We look forward to next year, and hope that the event may continue to grow.

Mark your calendars, for Aug. 2, 2014.
