Laie Ventures To Build New Hotel

Hawaii Reserves Inc. recently announced the selection of a developer to build the new hotel next to Polynesian Cultural Center.

Laie Ventures LLC is headed by partners Dan Gifford and Brent Wood, who will finance and develop the project, working with a ground lease from the land manager, Hawaii Reserves. The old Laie Inn was torn down in 2009 and will be replaced by a three-story, 144-room facility to serve visitors to PCC, the Laie Temple and BYU-Hawaii.

Hawaii Reserves president Eric Beaver called the new hotel project “an economic driver and community resource for Koolauloa” which will benefit the entire region. Construction of phase one is pending initial permits, but is expected to begin later this year.

The next step is to relocate the gas station to Laie Shopping Center, and move the McDonald’s restaurant further north on the hotel property.
