Members of International Karate Federation Hawai‘i proudly wear their medals from the AAU Karate National Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Led by sensei Chuzo Kotaka, George Kotaka and Mari Kaneshiro, and supported by sensei William Binz and Richard Poland, 24 competitors ages 9-23 brought home 120 medals (58 gold, 35 silver and 27 bronze) in individual and team kobudo (weapons), kata (forms) and kumite (sparring). Medalists include Cassandra “Casie” Messer, Kailea Iwasaki, Jesse Moniz, Kaia Mosby, Paetyn Amper, Chase Anderson, Alexis “Mio” Bueza, Aidan Oyama, Lynn Chun, Lene Mosby, Leo Nishizaki, Layla Tacazon, Seiga Briones, Jhaymarie “Jamie” Messer, Paige Anderson, Di’Angelo Poland, Ryker Mitsunaga, Ayano Moore, Zervantez Poland, Haley Chee, Sean Trotman, Kaito Price, Anika Trotman and Taylor Kaneshiro.
