Kapolei Crowd Eats Up Cooking Demonstration, Samples

Chef Roy Yamaguchi and Dean Okimoto of ‘Nalo Farms teamed up to conduct a cooking demonstration Aug. 3 at Foodland in Kapolei.

The pair made Gorditas with Nalo Collection – which the audience had the chance to sample.

Yamaguchi was inspired to create the dish after eating a gordita at Taco Bell and wanted to put his own local twist on it. He made fresh tortillas and fish tacos with pickled radish. He said, “Cooking is from your heart. You can interpret it in your own style.”

The demonstration was a sneak preview for the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival, which will take place next month.
