International Dance Troupes To Rock PCC

Laie will rock with the best of the exciting haka dance from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 31 during Te Manahua Maori Cultural Arts Festival at Polynesian Cultural Center.

Showcasing the music and dance of Aotearoa, dance troupes from Utah, Canada, Australia and New Zealand will perform in the stunning Haka Hard! competition as well as the Poi-e dance (twirling poi balls). A Maori Performing Arts Festival also will offer exhibition performances throughout the day, highlighted by the award-winning Nga uri o te Whanoa from Aotearoa. The troupe is considered a prominent contender in the Te Matatini National Competiton, similar to our Merrie Monarch and held every two years in New Zealand.

“We’re also excited to be able to live-stream this year’s event in our polynesia.com website to allow fans from around the world to enjoy the performances,” noted PCC’s Aotearoa village manager Seamus Fitzgerald.

Tickets cost $10 for adults and $6 for ages 5 to 11. For more information, call 293-3333.
