Apply Keiki Now For Head Start

Parents eager to have their children ahead of the curve can now apply to Honolulu Community Action Program’s Head Start.

The free early-childhood program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is designed to help preschoolers from low-income families prepare for elementary school. It offers part-day, full-day and home-based options, depending on a family’s needs.

Any keiki born between Aug. 1, 2009, and July 31, 2011, is eligible to participate. Apply online at hcapweb.org/headstart or call 847-2400 to get a paper application form. Mail any relevant documents to 33 S. King St., Suite 300, Honolulu HI 96813. A representative from HCAP will be in touch within a few days of submission.

There are 84 Head Start classroom locations and four home-based programs on Oahu, serving more than 1,659 students a year. The Head Start program has existed nationally since 1965.
