Hirono’s Area Academy Picks

Five West Oahu youths have been nominated to U.S. service academies by U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono.

Her office announced the recommendations last month, in order for them to be considered for final appointments for the fall semester of 2013.

“I nominate these young women and men with great pride as they collectively represent the finest qualities Hawaii has to offer,” said Hirono, who will move to a U.S. Senate seat next month, “intelligence, dedication and commitment combined with the aloha and ‘can do’ spirit I know they’ll bring to their future endeavors.”

The nominees are listed below.

U.S. Air Force Academy – Jennifer Jones of Kapolei (Island Pacific Academy) and Amirah Majied of Ewa Beach (USAF Prep School and Island Pacific Academy)

U.S. Naval Academy – Jason Althouse of Kapolei (Kapolei High), Justin Lowe of Kapolei (HPU and Kamehameha Schools) and Michael Thomas of Royal Kunia (Radford High).
