Overall what did you think?

I liked it! It’s good for children to believe in magic. It gives them hope because magic is possible if you believe. Magic brings optimism, and when one believes, they have faith and hope, and they aspire to be that hero. We have an obligation to teach our children the right way so they will grow up and become responsible adults and good citizens in the community. The children depended on the Guardians to deliver the magic so they have something to look forward to every year – Easter or Christmas. It brings happiness to a child when they can grow their imagination. The Guardians also depended on the children to believe in them in order to exist. Believing in someone means trusting them. Trust is so important in any relationship … and they say, the magic of Christmas.

Without giving away the ending, what was one of your favorite scenes?

My favorite scene would have to be the bedroom scene when the little boy (Jamie) awakens to find the Guardians surrounding him. You can feel the joy in his heart, his anticipation to tell his friends. It reminded me of great concerts with my favorite rock stars in one venue. What a beautiful experience!

On a scale of one to four stars, what would you rate this film?

I always prefer a film that the majority don’t care for. I would rate it ★★★ because Tzana liked it. If a 15-year-old likes it, it’s gotta be good!

Was the message/theme clear?

One of the themes circles around Spiritual Guardians and how important they are in rearing and raising children to become caring adults with good and kind hearts. Children like to imitate their heroes, and their heroes become a part of them. We all have guardians, and some of us retain them for life. A Guardian is a protector, a keeper – one with an angelic quality, almost. The Guardians in the movie all have supernatural qualities/strengths, and they use their superpowers to deliver something good to childhood experiences. Children need guidance or someone to look up to so they won’t go astray. By this we educate the child to be adventurous and to grow their imagination or sublime in a positive way. But we also need to give children some form of control and not have them wander lawlessly or act defiantly as an adult.

Did any of the actors stand out?

The characters were all amazing with a top-notch voice cast. I was actually inspired to check out this career. Anyone need a voiceover for any future animation projects? I never saw a Santa with tattoos, which I found quite amusing with his Russian accent. Of course, they have to make the boogeyman named Pitch, as pitch-black as he is, the dark character in the movie, played by Jude Law. Sadly, the boogeyman is the character who is still the most feared by adults, but he takes a different shape and form in adulthood. He still hides under our beds and lurks in our closets sometimes.

On a different note, what’s new with you?

I’m excited for San Francisco cellist, singer and songwriter Unwoman’s second live performance here in Honolulu. She is performing at the third annual Venetian Mask Ball at Adega Portuguesa (1138 Smith St.) Dec. 8, along with Badra Bellydance (they are preparing an amazing dance for this event with new costumes). Willow Chang she said she will perform something she has never done before). Also, DJ Darkcloud (always the best in dance music) and myself.

On Dec. 14, Saturnalia: Celebrating the Winter Solstice and birthdays (myself, Void and Ann Xiety), as well as a special performance by Devi Dance Company and DJs Dymentia and Dark Cloud.

Karaoke finals for ’80s Pop Muzik on Dec. 29 at Bar 35. Also the big news: Miss Vamp Hawaii will be doing something new in 2013 and I can’t reveal it yet, but please stay tuned!
