Rick & Dixon Davis

Where and with whom did you see the movie? I saw it with my 9-year-old son Dixon Davis.

Overall, what did you think? Good fun, very entertaining – a good way to spend an hour and a half on a rainy day.

Without giving away the ending, what was one of your favorite scenes? When Skipper (voiced by Stacy Keach) helped Dusty (Dane Cook) in the canyon and went after Ripslinger (Roger Craig Smith).

On a scale of one to four stars, what would you rate this film? ★★★ – it was better than I thought it would be, and Dixon and I agree.

What did you think of the cinematography? Well done; just like Cars – good action scenes, especially the storm over the ocean.

Was the message/theme clear? “Keep on trying, don’t give up” was a consistent theme, quite clear.

Did it remind you of any other works of film? Of course, Cars comes to mind. Reminded us of Cars mainly because of the look of the characters, the style of animation and how they interacted.

To whom would you recommend this movie? Good for kids and adults because it was good fun, and scenes young and old could relate to. The movie had positive messages, showed different personalities, diversity of characters and ethnicity, getting more common in our world today, and even though we are different, we can all get along if we are honest and fair with one another. Doing right is the right thing to do.

Did any of the actors stand out? Skipper (voiced by Stacy Keach) had a strong character and presence about him.

Did you identify with any of the characters? Maybe a little with Dusty and his “I can win” positive attitude.

Did the soundtrack contribute significantly to the film? It helped in spots, but not overly memorable.

Would you buy this movie when it comes out on DVD? Probably not – good movie and entertaining, though.

What’s your favorite movie snack? “Iceeeeeee!!!!!!!!!” says Dixon. Mine is popcorn.

On a different note, what’s new with you? Dixon is working on his soccer skills, and I am working with new artist Jasmin Nicole Idica – check out her new video on Soul Sessions: honolulupulse.com/2013/08/video-soul-sessions-jasmin-nicole.
