Pop quiz: What would you like your son or daughter to do during their summer break?

a) Start a business
b) Learn jiu jitsu and self-defense
c) Practice public speaking
d) All of the above

If you answered “d,” you’re an ideal candidate to enroll your child in business school.

Hawaii Biz Kids is a new, three-week summer program that teaches kids how to build a business. It’s the brainchild of Daynin Dashefsky, who designed the classes to be part education, part inspiration.

“I want to empower kids at a young age to go after their dreams,” explains Dashefsky. “Teaching children to follow their passion and build a business is a gift that will last a lifetime.”

If anyone knows how to kick-start a new venture, it’s Dashefsky. She’s head Instructor at Kahala Jiu Jitsu, the first and only woman-owned jiu jitsu and self-defense school in Hawaii. She won the national championship belt at age 47.

The local mom is also a successful entrepreneur. Dashefsky scored a retail hit with her “2 Cool Fashion” storage carousel. That launched her career as a motivational speaker on the Mainland, selling her Inventor’s Starter Tool Kit.

But after a year and a half of helping others chase their dreams, she missed home, and developed Hawaii Biz Kids to combine her loves: jiu jitsu, business and education.

Her three-pronged teaching approach targets the mind, body and spirit.

Here’s a sample schedule:

9-10 a.m.: Jiu jitsu and self-defense to boost fitness and confidence and fuel the mind and creativity

10-11 a.m.: Business planning to give children a strong financial foundation

11 a.m.-noon: The art of selling

Noon-1 p.m.: Lunch and play

1-2 p.m.: Public speaking

The program will wrap up with a student trade show. As Dashefsky describes it, “It’s not simply about selling products. It’s learning how to effectively sell yourself, your dreams and passions. You’ll gain skills to sell yourself in an interview. You can even sell your family on taking a trip to Disneyland by showing benefits to everyone involved.”

Hawaii Biz Kids is open to children ages 7-13. Fifteen students will be accepted per session.

Just beware if your child masters the art of selling, you also could be on the hook for a trip to Disneyland.

Class 1: June 2-20
Class 2: June 30-July 18
Class meets 9 a.m.-2 p.m. (After-hour care available)
