Good Samaritans At Every Turn

Hi Pamela,

I was driving home from church with my 6- and 7-year-old when we ran out of gas – my bad, 100 percent. I tried to make it to a parking lot, but the driveway had too much slope, so we were pretty much stuck blocking traffic. Suddenly off-duty firefighter Paul showed up and helped me push it into the lot. He then offered to drive us to get a can of gas. We stopped at a couple of stations that had no can, then Paul said, “I know, we’ll just go get one at the fire station.” So he took us all the way to the Kapahulu station, where we borrowed a can, went to Chevron and filled it up. When we got back, we realized the can had a leaky cap and half the fuel was leaking out. Paul and I were able to jerry-rig a “funnel” so we could get the fuel in. I tried to give Paul some money for his time and effort, but he refused.

What a great example of a “good Samaritan” that my kids got to see on the way home from church! I want thank Paul again, and am stoked at yet another reminder that the Aloha Spirit is alive and well.

Aloha Pamela,

A huge mahalo to the young man who lives at Chateau Waikiki condo, who quickly and expertly changed a flat tire for two elderly folks on Hobron Lane. He would not accept any compensation. We neglected to get his name, but it just has to be Gabriel (as in angel), because that is what he was for these seniors. May God bless him richly on his pathway through life.

Aloha Pamela,

JoAnn L. deserves APPLAUSE because she was considerate enough to leave a note on my parked car when she accidentally hit it. My friends and I were awed. Not many people would do that. I hope many deserved blessings go back to her.

Dear Pamela,

I would like to thank the person who found my driver’s license on Nuuanu Avenue by First Baptist Church. I didn’t realize it was missing till late that night. I called the church the next morning and they did not find my license. Two days later, I received my license in the mail and I was so relieved. I really appreciated that my Anonymous Angel was kind enough to send my license back in a short time with a little note saying where they found my license. May lots of goodness come their way!

Dear Steve, Barbara, Dee and Laverne,

Your Anonymous Angels may have surprised you with the generosity, honesty and thoughtfulness they extended to perfect strangers, but true Samaritans act without thinking. Kindness is a way of living.
