This week in 1970: Janis Joplin makes her first and only appearance in Hawaii before a crowd of more than 7,000 fans at HIC Arena. Backed by the five-piece Full Tilt Boogie Band, she receives three standing ovations for her 80-minute, two-encore performance that includes Try (Just A Little Bit Harder), Maybe, Summertime, Get It While You Can, Piece Of My Heart and Ball And Chain. At one point during the concert, Janis jumps off the front of the stage and begins dancing with members of the audience! The opening act is a group named Day Blindness … and the No. 1 record is Forevermore by Tokyo Happy Coats
