Musicians’ Gabby Jam Saturday
Waimanalo Beach Park will come alive with the sound of Hawaiian music from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday for the Gabby Pahinui Waimanalo Kanikapila.
Originally established as a means to celebrate the legacy of the revered slack-key guitarist who hosted famous kanikapila sessions at his Waimanalo home, the seventh annual event now expects to see more than 200 musicians and dancers attend, connect and perform. While the focus is on performer camaraderie, the event is open and free to the public.
Community groups will have informational booths and arts and crafts available for attendees to peruse. Food vendors will sell Hawaiian luau plate lunches, fried fish, poke, huli chicken, BBQ plates, chili, beef stew, shave ice and much more.
Slack key and ukulele workshops led by Hawaiian master musicians will be held Friday. The event is funded in part through an OHA grant and T-shirt sales. Shirts can be purchased online at gabbypahinui.com or at the event.
